Kelly Johnson

After I graduated from Contentnea and Savannah, I attended North Lenoir High School. I was very involved in extracurricular activities such as soccer, cheerleading, and the drama department. I graduated from North Lenoir in 2008.

kelly_johnsonI had no idea what I wanted to do once I graduated North Lenoir. I felt like I needed to make a decision right then on how I would spend the rest of my life. Not knowing that answer yet, I decided to attend Pitt Community College. I graduated with an Associates of Arts. I then decided to attend Alexander Paul Institute of Hair Design, a private Cosmetology School in Greenville, NC. After that, I worked at a Salon in Greenville for a little while. I really loved making others feel good about the way they look, but I knew I did not want to do that for the rest of my life.

When things got difficult, believe me they did, I would call my mom. Not that it would make anything better, but it would make me feel better to talk to her. Then I would think about my favorite Bible verse. Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. (Philippians 4:6) Then I would let go and let God.

I always heard you can be anything you want to be when you grow up. I have always kept that in the back of my mind, and it helped me keep going even when I felt like giving up. With the support of my family and friends who made sure I never gave up on chasing after what I wanted. I was once told by a teacher, “If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan but never the goal.”

Currently, I work at Harvey Fertilizer and Gas Company here in Kinston as an Assistant. Anything anyone needs, they can come to me, and I make sure it gets handled. I do a variety of things such as getting power points ready for Board Meetings, ordering office supplies, answering the phone and taking messages for the President of our company, and distributing mail. I always knew I wanted to help others, just couldn’t figure out how. After many years of not knowing, I have finally figured out what I want to do with my life and know this is the right career for me.
