Weekly Message 6/5/2016

Good Evening Parents and Students.  This is Mrs. Amy Jones with your last weekly message of the 2015/16 school year.

Testing continues this week.  The 3rd grade Read to Achieve retest is on Monday, June 6th, the English I NCFE for 8th graders taking English I on Tuesday, June 7th, and the Math I EOC is on Wednesday, June 8th for 8th graders taking Math I.  Parents, it is very important that students get a good night’s rest every night so that they will be ready for these tests.  Also, if your child does not eat breakfast at school, please make sure he/she eats breakfast at home on testing mornings.  We have been hard at work preparing for these tests and we want students to be able to do their very best.

This week, we will hold our Awards Ceremonies and 8th grade promotion.  Middle School FFA Awards are on Monday, June 6th at 12:00 in the media center.  All other ceremonies will be held in the big gym.  Middle School Awards day is Monday, June 6th at 1:00.  Elementary Awards Day is Thursday, June 9th.  1st and 2nd grades will hold their Awards Day at 8:30 and Kindergarten will hold theirs at 10:00.  5th grade will hold their Awards Day at 1:00.  8th grade promotion is scheduled for June 10th at 9:00.  We hope you will be able to join us for our end of year events.

Friday, June 10th is the last day of school and students will be dismissed at 12:00.  Report cards will be distributed to students following the 8th grade promotion ceremony.

We are still collecting books for our Give 5 Read 5 program.  We will be distributing these books on Wednesday.  Please consider donating books that are appropriate for Kindergarten – 5th graders so that we will be able to send home five books with each elementary child for the summer.  You may drop off book or money donations in the front office.

Many of you already know that I have been named the high school and CTE director for Lenoir County Public Schools as of July 1st and will no longer serve CSS as its principal.  I want to let each and every one of you know how much I have enjoyed working with you and your families over the years and will miss you all greatly.  CSS is an outstanding school and will always be close to my heart.  Thank you for all of your support and I know that you will continue to make our school great.

I hope everybody has a safe and happy summer and Go Cougars!
